ANGEM organises a conference on the role of microcredit in socio-economic development in the regions of Ain Salah and Tamanrasset

The National Agency for the Management of Microcredit General Director, Mrs. Souade Bendjemil, along with the Wali of Tamanrasset, Mr. Mohamed Boudraa, as well as local authorities of the wilaya, formally inaugurated the seminar organized by ANGEM in collaboration with the National Institute for Global Strategic Studies under the theme: “The role of microcredit in promoting socio-economic development in the regions of Ain Salah and Tamanrasset”, and which took place on May 14, 2025.

ANGEM’s General Director delivered a speech at the seminar, highlighting the significance of the meeting, asserting that microcredit is among the most important programs that has proven its effectiveness in fostering local development.

The General Director has also emphasized the crucial role of the wilaya of Ain Salah and Tamanrasset, considering their unique social, cultural and economic characteristics.

Furthermore, these two wilayas provide a conductive environment in terms of investment in micro-projects, especially in the field of crafts and Saharan heritage.

The General Director added that promoting development in the South cannot be achieved without genuine support for local initiatives and boosting the local economy. In this regard, ANGEM is committed to actively pursue its efforts to facilitate access to funding, while promoting support, training, and guidance. It also pledges to tailor its financing program to the region’s specific needs.

During this meeting, Ms. Zerari Samiha, Interim Program Development Executive, delivred a presentation on the role of the microcredit program in socioeconomic development.

In her presentation, Ms. Zerari underscored the microcredit program and its services, as well as the achievements of the wilaya of Tamanrasset in terms of granting microcredit.

For her part, Ms. Mourad Fatiha, representative of the National Institute for Global Strategic Studies, delivered a presentation on the strategic role of microcredit in economic and social development. She also outlined international approaches and projections related to the Ain Salah-Tamanrasset axis.

On the sidelines of this meeting, a roundtable discussion was held on the role of micro activities in the development of the wilayas of Ain Salah and Tamanrasset.

The session was moderated by the Agency Executive of Tamanrasset, the Executive of the Wilaya’s Chamber of Crafts, as well as representatives from the Tamanrasset Departments of Agriculture and Vocational Training & Education. This exchange aimed to highlight the economic potential of both regions and explore optimal strategies to harness it particularly through supporting micro-activities in agriculture, crafts, and tourism.

Following the meeting, the Wali of Tamanrasset and the General Director of ANGEM visited the local micro-activity exhibition organized alongside the meeting. Several beneficiaries of the microcredit program working in different fields such as honey production, soap production, pottery, the craft of traditional jewelry, and artistic craftsmanship took part in this exhibition.

They then officially launched the awareness-raising caravan, which will tour Ain Salah and Tamanrasset. The caravan departed from the Tamanrasset and headed towards the Atoul region, considered the most dynamic transit region in terms of activities on the Ain Salah-Tamanrasset road axis.
